It’s official! We are now the proud new owners of 1004 Central Street. We signed last Wednesday, June 24, and the sale recorded Friday June 26. All in all it took about 7 weeks to close (we made the original offer on May 5). We had initially expected to close May 20, clearly a little too optimistic.

It’s Official!
Seabrook
Seabrook is a new planned development on the Washington Coast, about a mile south of Pacific Beach and fifteen miles north of Ocean Shores.
Lukens Tree Preservation
Work done on 1004 Central:
Removal of two trees from the property and trimming of the rest. We have used them for years on our current home and have always been pleased with their work.
Seattle’s City Green Building Program
The City of Seattle’s Department of Planning and Development has an entire web site devoted to green building, created and maintained by the City Green Building program.
The Verdict
This past weekend we had a visit from Mark, a family friend and construction guru from Boise, ID. To be perfectly honest most of our construction-savvy friends and family have indicated (albeit gently) that the house may not be salvageable. We were relying on Mark to make the final call.
Why the Blog?
The purpose of this site is twofold:
To keep our friends, family and other curious onlookers apprised of what’s going on with the project, and
To document how we are doing it, in our attempt to make the project as eco-friendly as possible within budget. In other words, it’s the “green” remodel for [semi] normal people.

Oogie Boogie
I have been waiting in eager anticipation to see just exactly how many dead bodies we would find underneath the house, sort of hoping that none of them would be human. That could be really awkward.
And So It Begins
Step 1: Clear the ginormous grass, weeds and blackberry brambles on the property. The property at 1004 Central is approximately 1/3 of an acre and boy is it lush!
