Last week we sat down with a green building consultant in Seattle for a “project analysis” of the 1004 Central rebuild. We had a number of our questions answered and also learned a bit more about the LEED for Homes green building certification.
LEED – The Verdict
Visit to the Green Building Consultant
We met today with a green building consultant, Elly at O’Brien & Company in Seattle. O’Brien & Company offers a multitude of services related to sustainability and green building. They are also the LEED for Homes provider in Washington State.
Stormwater Management Plan
The stormwater management plan for 1004 Central, both during construction and long-term, relies on low impact development techniques. The goals for stormwater management during and post-construction are different.
Solar & Greenbuilding Tour
At the recent Olympia Master Builders Home and Garden Show we picked up a flier for the National Solar & Greenbuilding Tour. The tour will be on Saturday, October 3, from 10:00 am – 4:oo pm. Go online for a list of the buildings on the tour and to download a PDF brochure with a map.
Green Building Certifications
The definition of “green building” can often appear fuzzy and confusing. In come green building certifications – programs that outline step-by-step approaches to building a green structure.
And We’re Off!
Construction has BEGUN! Wahooooo! We received our building permit last Friday (September 4) and at long last (it felt long, anyway) the ball has started rolling.
Green Roofs 101
We have seen green roofs before – they are cropping up more and more, including along Olympia’s Woodland Trail, right near our house. We have considered incorporating a green roof into the redesign of 1004 Central, most likely the garage.
Stormwater Management… AGAIN
In addition to having a plan for stormwater management on a property once development is complete, a plan for managing stormwater during the construction phase is also required. How and when to go about this can be CON-FU-SING!, or at least that was the case for us.
The Plans! The Plans!
They’re heeeeeeeere! We now have the official plans for the 1004 Central rebuild. We have submitted the building permit application to the City – plan review typically takes two to four weeks. Now we wait!
